the turner centre for counselling & psychotherapy

Sometimes life’s events and experiences can throw us off balance emotionally. If you are at a point where you are wondering what support is “out there”, the Turner Centre can help.

We are a private, independent counselling and psychotherapy centre with a large team of counsellors, psychotherapists and clinical psychologists and can help you find the therapist that’s right for you.

If you’re feeling you need support but unsure as to how counselling or therapy could help or what it involves, you can contact our Therapy Services Manager, Poppy Harvey-Lee on 01206 544458 and she will be pleased to talk you through the services we offer and how it all works.

Alternatively, you can see the profiles of all our therapists on our “Meet our Therapists” page and the fees they charge. They all offer an initial appointment which allows you to get a sense as to whether counselling or therapy with them might be helpful before deciding. We also offer low cost counselling from our carefully selected student counsellors on placement from the university of Essex, Suffolk and London.

Our confidential counselling and psychotherapy is offered on a short term or open ended basis to support the mental health of individuals, couples, children, teenagers and families in Colchester, Essex and the surrounding areas.Psychotherapy. Our therapists are experienced in supporting these difficulites and more.

You can now see our therapists available appointments and book an appointment online directly with the therapist of your choice or you can contact the centre and speak to our therapy services manager who will be pleased to discuss with you what you are looking for and how we can help.

making an initial appointment with a therapist online or by phone/email

Coming into counselling or therapy is daunting and we understand this, so we offer an initial appointment which allows you to get a sense as to whether therapy with that particular therapist could be helpful. From here the therapist will suggest you have a think about the session and make direct contact with them if you decide to continue. The fee for the initial appointment is the same as any further appointments you may have and reflects their level of experience. You can see all our therapists fees on their profiles on "meet our therapists" page.

If you would like to make an initial appointment with one of our therapists - there are three ways of doing this;

  • you can click below on "Make an Appointment" and select from the drop down menu, which will then show you ALL the available appointments - by clicking on an appointment, you will see which therapist the appointment is with and will be able to book it and send a message to the therapist who will respond to your appointment request promptly - you may wish to look at the therapists personal profile before booking the appointment to see their fee and to check it is someone you feel could be helpful to you.
  • or you can look for the therapist of your choice through the "Meet Our Therapists" page and click on their profile to see their 'available appointments' and then follow the instructions and book one - this will send a message to the therapist who will then contact you directly to confirm the appointment.

If you are unsure as to what you are looking for and would prefer to speak to our Therapy Services Manager, Poppy Harvey-Lee, and discuss how we can help and to find out more about our services and therapists, you can call her on 01206 544458 - she will be pleased to hear from you. She is available Monday to Thursday from 9.30am - 3pm and Fridays 9.30am - 2pm. Any other time, you can leave her a message and she will return your call as soon as she is back in the office.

  • Alternatively, you can email the centre at info@theturnercentre.com and our Therapy Services Manager will respond to you promptly.

If you cannot see an appointment that fits with you, we do have another centre in Ipswich, the Stephenson Centre, www.thestephensoncentre.com, where some of our therapists also work as well as there being more therapists and more available appointments. Do take a look if you feel that may work for you.

About Counselling
About Counselling

Counselling and psychotherapy are terms used interchangeably and mean a process which allows people or groups of people to discuss their problems and any difficult and confusing feelings in a safe and confidential environment with a qualified therapist.

Types of Therapy
Types of Therapy

There are many different ways of understanding life and the troubles it can bring and they do not all make sense to all of us. We all have different ways of understanding the world around us and making sense of our difficulties.

Couples Therapy
Couples Therapy

As human beings one of the closest relationships we have is with a partner. However, remaining happy in that relationship and staying together can be difficult through life’s twists and turns. Having a family can add pressure to the relationship and as dynamics change, each others’ needs change, struggles can emerge.

Children and Teenagers
Children and Teenagers

Distress for children and teenagers can manifest itself in different ways to adults but they may still be feeling sad or depressed or overwhelmed with feelings which they don't understand nor know how to deal with.

Low cost counselling
Low cost counselling

We can offer low cost counselling from our student / trainee counsellors from £15 per session. They are on placement at the centre and in their second or third year of training and are required to see individuals as part of their qualifying.
